Gas Natural Fenosa, in collaboration with other local partners, is developing two regasification plant projects in Italy: one is to be located in the Adriatic Sea, in the industrial area of Trieste, and the other is to be located in the Ionian Sea, in the port area of Taranto. Both projects are in the process of being granted permits and will have similar general characteristics, with an annual send-out capacity of 8 bcm and a ground occupation of some 10 hectares.
Each terminal will have only one berthing, which will be able to receive LNG carriers with a capacity of between 75,000 and 140,000 m3. LNG storage will be in full containment tanks, which will have a total net unitary capacity of 140,000 m3, and each terminal will have two tanks. LNG vaporisation will take place in five open-rack LNG vaporisers, which will be fed with sea water, having an individual capacity of 204,000 Nm3/h, complemented with two submerged combustion vaporisers with a capacity of 190,000 Nm3/h.
In June 2008, the regasification plant project in Trieste received a positive report from the Italian Ministry of the Environment for its Environmental Impact Study "Valutazione di Impatto Ambientale".
