The Bahía Blanca GasPort regasification plant uses a regasification vessel provided by EXCELERATE L.L.C., and is the first plant of its kind to operate in South America.
The project was fast tracked, so it became operational in a very short period of time (less than 6 months from the FID). The success of the project is due to a combination of several factors, including the high level of collaboration with the Argentinean authorities and the experience and dedication of the multidisciplinary team formed by staff from EXCELERATE, YPF, REPSOL and STREAM.
The regasification vessel is moored at a dock that has been modified to be able to receive large vessels and equipped with a high-pressure gas unloading arm. The regasification vessel uses an on-board regasification system, which minimises the environmental impact on the surrounding area. The LNG reloading operation is undertaken by a ship-to-ship transfer without leaving the mooring or stopping the gas emission.
The facility is connected to the national gas transport network, which enables the output of the regasification vessel to be sent to both industries in the region and to rest of Argentina.
